TL;DR
Open the E57 to LAZ converter, select a local E57 file, review its scan inventory, and choose the scans to preview and convert. Select LAZ or PCD from the available outputs and download the result.
E57 support is currently a prototype. Files stay in your browser, with no upload, login, or software installation.
1. Open one E57 file
Choose or drag in the original .e57 file. Use a modern desktop browser with enough memory for the source and decoded points. The prototype needs browser support for WebAssembly threads and cross-origin isolation.
The source container is currently loaded into memory in full. The 8 GB attempt ceiling is not a promise that any file below that size will succeed: available memory can be exhausted much earlier. Begin with a modest sample.
2. Inspect the scan inventory
Review the scan count, scan names, point counts, available fields, bounds, coordinate mode, and embedded-image count. This helps identify the scan you need before doing a full conversion.
An E57 file can contain multiple scans. The reader supports Cartesian coordinates and converts supported spherical range, azimuth, and elevation data into XYZ. Existing registered poses are applied; the tool does not solve a new scan registration for you.
3. Choose scans and check the preview
Select one or more scans and apply the selection. Fit the preview and check orientation, coverage, and relative placement. A small scan selection is a useful first check before exporting the whole available set.
Preview sampling is bounded, while conversion reads the selected scans at full source resolution in point chunks. Selecting fewer scans reduces decoded-point work, but does not remove the need to buffer the E57 source container.
4. Choose LAZ or PCD
Choose LAZ when the next application accepts compressed LAS point clouds. Choose PCD when working with a PCL or robotics workflow that expects that format. The LAZ to PCD guide explains some of the differences.
Review preservation warnings before converting. XYZ and supported RGB/intensity attributes can be represented, but attributes that differ between scans are retained only when present across the converted scans. Embedded images and structured row, column, and return indices are reported or inspected, not exported into the resulting point cloud.
5. Convert, download, and reopen
Start conversion and download the output. Reopen it in the WolkeViz viewer or your intended downstream tool. Check the point count, bounds, scan placement, and available attributes against the source.
Keep the E57 as the original record: LAZ or PCD output is not a complete replacement for every part of the E57 container. There is no E57 writer or E57 ZIP-sequence workflow in this prototype.
